My Scarf

My grandma started teaching me how to knit on Monday. We did some practising on her needles with some left over wool she had. Once I'd got the hang of it, she taught me how to cast on to begin a project. Then on Wednesday I started my own scarf. I'd bought some wool last Friday - light purple textured wool, which has actually been quite good to start on as some is thinner and thicker. It hides some of the little mistakes, dropped stitches and the fact that I started with 36 stitches and now have 40. I'm quite proud as I have knitted about 40cm in length now, using 1 and a half of my 10 balls of wool. I think I'll use almost all of them. Fingers crossed that I can get it finished before I leave for France; but with the way that paperwork is going, it looks like I'll at least get that done, if not more!

Paris Je t'aime

I had wanted to see this movie a while ago. Today I finally did. Wow. Especially the last clip on the 14e. I know why I've studied French and continued with it and persevered to live there - so that I would not end up like that American lady with 6 days in Paris after all that work and such an empty life. And yes living the life I am now is far from perfect but I had a good cry with her and knew I was alive.

The Birth of Christ

The first four bible readings on this 100 day bible reading list are the four gospel versions of the birth of Christ. Matthew to begin with. Such a short story relly for one so powerful. The other thing is that it's only one per day. I felt like I could skip ahead and read all four in the one sitting. Maybe it would even make comparing them easier. Then I realised I was approaching this with the wrong idea.

For years reading has mostly been for study for me. Getting through exams, assignments, trying to make the grade that bit better for the end of semester. However, it's more than just that. It was almost skipping over material to get to the end result, taking a little information up on the way, and then letting it go quickly at the end of semester. This private study is not supposed to be like that. So one passage a day. Over four days, the four versions of the Birth of Christ.

One passage per day to reflect. Soaking in the message rather than memorising it and forgetting it. 100 days.

News....good I guess...but depressing too

OK, some news, but depressing news in a way. Yes I'll be going to France but probably not for another three weeks! I'll be arriving at the same time as the assistants!

My bf just called the ANAEM again. I spoke to them the other week and they said that my file was processed and sent on 14th August. I assumed this meant sent to the consulate but one should never assume anything with the French. It was only at the stage of being sent to the minister! It did come back with avis favorable, but now is back at the ANAEM in Poitiers. The directrice just signed it and it's going back to Paris to be sent on to the consulate. She said it would probably be another week and a half before it arrived at the consulate in Sydney!

Then of course the consulate has to contact me and I send in my visa application.......

Yes, things are happening, but I am so depressed! It feels like I'll never get back to France!
